The Amsler grid test is a self-monitoring tool to detect changes in central vision caused by macular disease, such as Age-Related Macular Degeneration (AMD), by checking for distortions, blind spots, or blurriness in a grid pattern. To perform the test, hold the grid in good light at reading distance, cover one eye, focus on the central dot, and observe if the lines appear straight and uniform, then repeat with the other eye.
